Introduction
Khair-e-Ummah Foundation is a not-for-profit community based organization for the welfare and uplift of the weaker sections of society especially the aged, downtrodden, underprivileged, poor men, women and children. This is a community based organization and efforts of the volunteers shall contribute to achieve the goals of the betterment of the said segments of society.
As the responsibility of provision of basic facilities to the people must not be left with the government only keeping in view the slow progress of its initiatives and the trickle down effect of its policies which reaches to the public so late, there must be other community based bodies to initiate the common welfare schemes and projects. Instead of looking towards the government, when people of a community start something of their mutual benefit, they get the benefit in a little course of time with a very little contribution made by the each member. In this way, the big accomplishments carry not much burden for the community members. Keeping in view the spirit of the very same philosophy, Khair-Umma Foundation has been established. The basic objectives of setting up of this organization are as follows:
1. To lessen the sufferings of the weaker segments of society.
2. To assist the downtrodden in the needs of their living.
3. To improve the living standard of the poor.
4. To help the poor in their needs regarding health, education etc.
5. To create Social Awareness in the masses.
The organization shall work at different levels i.e. at an intellectual level as well as at the practical level. At the intellectual level, it shall work for creating awareness regarding different social issues informing people about causes of the issues and the alternatives available for application to the situations and adopting of the best alternative for solution of the problem. The people shall be urged to participate and contribute their energy and resources to bring social change which can positively affect their lives.
At the practical level, the organization shall take initiatives and bring up different projects of common social interest and welfare which shall be carried out with the help and cooperation of the community and other organizations and individuals. Upon the completion, the community members shall collectively benefit from such projects with out discrimination on any basis.
Initially, the efforts are being focused upon well being of the senior citizens who are the victim of neglect and loneliness, hence, are not able to sustain themselves at their own. Later on, diversified projects shall be drawn and implemented for other segments including the welfare of children and women, instant relief and assistance to the impoverished ones, micro financing for the destitute households, establishment of healthcare centers, psychological counseling centers, employment counseling centers disaster management wing, and an independent organ for the creation of social awareness in the masses. As the elimination and eradication of class barriers is the key to social advancement, all these projects shall go a long way to contribute in improving the quality of life of the weaker segments of the society and bringing them in mainstream social class.
Once, the values and morality of the East used to be so strong that the aged persons were treated and considered as a precious asset and beacons of the light of wisdom for the younger generations. With the fast paced lifestyle and the changing world and personal requirements, the aged people started to be isolated and cornered on account of a myriad of reasons instead of being taken good care of as they have already contributed a lot towards their young generations. But when they are at the receiving end they don’t seem to get what they deserve. The fracturing of joint family system which once used to be a cornerstone of the ‘Asian Civilization’ added to the plight of the elderly persons. In some cases, in spite of having a dozen of offspring, such persons are usually found to be lonely and dejected as a result of the neglect they had to endure.
Keeping in view the plight of the dejected and victimized old persons, an initiative has being taken for the establishment of an old home “MASKAN” for such persons of our rapidly changing society. Here, all needed facilities shall be provided to the deserving persons so that they shall live their remaining life peacefully with out any worry and hassle with regard to their survival. The facilities shall include housing, food, clothing, sporting/entertainment, information, healthcare and all other support they must need in any case.
All out efforts shall be put in to work for making the MASKAN a place of peace and calmness for respectable elders of our society.
Source of Funding
The funding comes from a variety of sources including individuals from the community, foundations, corporations, non-government organizations. The money so received shall be expended on different projects for the welfare of the community at large.
It shall be a great favour to those in need if any organizations or individuals may extend financial assistance in furtherance of the above mentioned causes.
